StudentsCare Receives $1,000 Ride Share Grant From Lyft

We are thrilled to announce that StudentsCare has been chosen as one of three local partners through Lyft’s Community Grant Program! As part of this program, we received $1,000 in Lyft ride credits for our Student Buddies at the University of Pennsylvania to commute to St. Christopher’s Hospital. “This is great news because the time-savings (Lyft rides versus taking public transportation) will enable each of our Student Buddies to spend 20 minutes more with patients each week,” says Erica Sokol Carroll, Founder and CEO of StudentsCare. “That could lead to 130 additional hours a year spent with patients in our Philadelphia program!”

Lyft announced in July that nonprofits in over 40 cities would be receiving Lyft Ride Grants on a quarterly basis in order to consolidate transportation costs for individuals and families. We are one of three of the recipients for the Philadelphia-area Lyft grant initiative, alongside People for People and Repair the World Philadelphia, two noteworthy organizations making an impact in our Philadelphia community!

“Lyft is proud to partner with these three deserving nonprofits who are already making Philadelphia a great place for people to live, work, volunteer, and visit,” said Andrew Woolf, Lyft’s Regional Director of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. “We look forward to supporting the hard working participants of these organizations who want to take their efforts even further by providing access to reliable and affordable transportation through our grant initiative.”

Some of our students are already reaping the benefits of the grant, one of them being University of Pennsylvania Student Buddy, Mandy Chuang. “This grant has been wonderful in providing our Hospital Buddy Volunteers with the means to get to and from St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children to spend time with our kids, without worrying about the transportation expenses.  In addition, our chapter is currently on-boarding new volunteers, so this is an amazing grant to help make all the trips to the hospital for orientation, interviews, and health checks easy and possible. I am so excited for these new volunteers to start and we are so grateful for this grant!”

We are so excited that our Student Buddies at the University of Pennsylvania will be able to provide more hours of fun, friendship, and support in the hospital. Thank you Lyft!
