INTRODUCING AUGUST’S BUDDY OF THE MONTH: KAYLA MOHAN

INTRODUCING AUGUST’S BUDDY OF THE MONTH: KAYLA MOHAN

As our summer comes to a close, we are moving towards Fall and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September. Although we do not solely work with pediatric cancer patients at StudentsCare, our Buddy of the Month, Kayla Mohan finds it inspiring to work with this population. Kayla is a rising senior at Florida International University with plans to become a pediatrician. Her experience with StudentsCare is helping to prepare her for her future career. Kayla says that “Every week volunteering in the hospital is different. That’s the beauty of StudentsCare. Being able to spend quality time with patients and seeing their personalities is something amazing as an aspiring physician.”

Kayla has demonstrated great dedication to our organization by being involved in our new Senior Buddy Program, where she has been matched as a buddy to a senior resident at United Home Care in Miami, Florida. She has also helped to create a video highlighting this new program and the impact it has had on students like her across the country, as well as all the seniors supported through these efforts. Prior to being in the Senior Buddy Program, Kayla served in our Hospital Buddy Program at Baptist Children’s Hospital in Miami, Florida. Both of these experiences have enriched Kayla’s life in a meaningful way.

This past Spring, Kayla was selected as the chapter president of our Florida International University chapter. She is excited to work alongside her vice president, Gabrielle, this upcoming school year and finding ways to spread love to others, whether we are physically with them or not.  Kayla says that “Anyone can create an organization. Anyone can join an organization. But StudentsCare is more than just an organization. StudentsCare is a family of individuals full of love, drive, and passion”.

Thank you for your dedication, Kayla. Without you, we would not be able to make such a difference in the lives of children and seniors. Learn more about Kayla’s volunteer experience by watching her StudentsCare video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ3iIvcP_y0&t=6s
