INTRODUCING JANUARY BUDDY OF THE MONTH: DANIELA LOO

In June, Daniela Loo, a pre-med junior at the University of Miami, connected with Luis, a 92-year-old man residing at United Home Care in Miami, Florida. Over just a few short months, what you might expect to be an unlikely friendship, turned into a beautiful one.

Over their weekly phone calls, they talked about Daniela’s classes, their families, and Luis’s interests, such as his favorite tv shows. Daniela says Luis’s kindness and concern for others was inspiring.

Sadly, Luis passed away last month– one of 380,000 Americans lost to Covid. Danela will always remember Luis telling her she was his “healing angel” and she feels blessed that she was able to contribute to his happiness, during difficult times. “Despite a challenging year, Luis focused on the good and faced all hardships with optimism,” says Daniela. She will always remember and cherish his positive outlook on life.

Thank you Daniela for making a difference in Luis’s life, up until the very end. We know you will honor his memory by continuing to compassionately care for others.
